What is the Chelsea Flea and why is it special?

Today’s Chelsea Flea is part of the rich legacy of outdoor vintage, antique and collectible markets that have thrived on and around W. 25th St. for more than 40 years. Originally established as the Chelsea Flea Market in 1976, and shuttered in 2019, it relaunched in its current form in 2020 under Brooklyn Flea’s management.

Beloved by shoppers ranging from Andy Warhol to Brad Pitt, Drew Barrymore to Susan Sontag, today’s market continues to welcome a number of its original vendors and regulars, as well as cultivating new generations of New Yorkers and global visitors in the know.

Is Chelsea Flea open every weekend? Is there an entry fee?

Yes, we’re open every Saturday and Sunday, 8am to 4pm. The market remains open outdoors year-round, holidays included—unless otherwise noted. (Check Instagram Stories the day of major weather events, just in case.)

The market is free to enter.

What if there’s rain in the forecast?

The market is open rain or shine (or snow). The forecast changes all the time and vendors are encouraged to come every weekend, regardless of forecast. In the event of an all-day, total downpour, don't expect all of the vendors to be set up, as some may opt not to come. Again, you can find any major updates or straight cancellations on our social media.

Is the market pet-friendly?

Chelsea Flea does allow dogs and service animals. Please consider weather conditions before bringing your pet to the market. The pavement is hot during summer months and less kind to uncovered paws.

What's the best way to get to the markets?

We strongly encourage everyone to take public transportation to get to the Chelsea Flea. It’s closest to the 1 train at 28th St, and the R, W trains at 28th, but also walkable from Herald Square, Madison Square Park and Union Square.

We recommend using Google Maps for up-to-date transit information from your location.

Is the market cash-only?

Vendors accept cash and many accept debit or credit cards and contactless payment. There are ATMs onsite at all of our locations; the transaction fee is $2.50.

Is there food served at Chelsea Flea?

No, not at this time.

Can I check out vendors before I visit?
